Synnøve Anker Aurdal (1908–2000) revolutionized textile art by combining traditional techniques with painterly abstraction, using innovative materials such as copper thread, polyester, and synthetic dyes. Despite her success in Norway, her career was shaped by being a woman without academic training, working in a medium considered feminine.
Through the Threads is the most comprehensive monograph on her work, featuring texts by scholars and an interview with her daughter, Siri Aurdal. The book also includes a collection of poems and archival images, serving as a sequel to the 2022 retrospective at the Astrup Fearnley Museet.
