James Ballard - All that mattered was sensation

An interview with James Ballard, followed by a critical essay by Simon Reynolds

In the publication’s critical essay, acclaimed journalist and author Simon Reynolds comments on selected excerpts from the interview. Using a complex network of references, from underground music and philosophical writings to Hollywood movies, and classic novels, quoting Mark Fisher and Sherlock Holmes, Reynolds discusses how all of them find their place in James Ballard’s work.
