Developed alongside the broader visual identity and communication system created by Frakas for Joia, the new website translates the restaurant’s philosophy of contemporary vegetarian fine dining into a digital experience shaped by silence, space, and contemplation. The project was conceived around the idea of the website as a kind of digital white cube: a minimal and carefully balanced environment designed to leave space for the cuisine itself. Rather than filling the interface with decorative elements or dense communication, the design deliberately embraces emptiness, allowing colours, textures, ingredients, and plating to emerge with the presence of artworks inside a gallery space.
This approach reflects Joia’s broader philosophy. In a city like Milan, often associated with speed, overstimulation, and constant visual noise, the website proposes a slower and more meditative rhythm. Large areas of white space, restrained typography, and calm transitions create an experience intended not only for browsing, but also for pausing, observing, and reading. The visual language extends the wider communication system developed by Frakas for the restaurant, maintaining coherence across digital platforms, social media, and printed materials while reinforcing Joia’s positioning within contemporary hospitality, cultural dining, and Michelin-starred vegetarian cuisine.
The website was also designed to strengthen Joia’s international digital presence, positioning the restaurant not simply as a fine dining destination in Milan, but as a reference point for contemporary vegetarian gastronomy and hospitality rooted in care, research, and cultural depth.
