The project displayed at Parco Gallery fits with the production path of La Tigre, pushing it towards a next step: a twenty-meter fabric roll with a single design that develops along its entire length. Within the boundaries of the fabric, the line extended at its maximum size, seeks its space. Black and white fight on a colored ground in a continuous metamorphosis. Orange on one side and blue on the other extreme, it makes every single centimeter of the piece unrepeatable and can be purchased by the meter as in a tailor’s shop, giving life to a succession of unique pieces.
This exhibition as well as a performance presents a fickle and monolithic work. In an era in which graphics seem to be increasingly reduced to a succession of small images on social media, this work by La Tigre becomes giant and invites dialogue, to be touched and embraced. A graphic that can’t wait to leave the gallery walls to invade the daily lives of visitors and that aspires to be transformed, to become a curtain, tablecloth, trousers, shirt and – finally – tapestry.
“Behind the curtains”, a talk by La Tigre
During the opening Luisa Milani and Walter Molteni, founders of La Tigre, speak about the background of their work and their formal research, starting from their daily work up to the choice of challenging the format of the work ti be displayed.
La Tigre is a graphic design studio founded and directed by Luisa Milani and Walter Molteni, an internationally recognized creative duo and AGI member. Since 2009 the studio has been constantly and tirelessly searching for multiform and kaleidoscopic visual languages. This formal research is permeated by the synthesis and the vibrant use of color, the border between abstract and figurative becomes indefinable at times.
