Andrea Ravo Mattoni was born in Varese in 1981 in a family of artists: his father Carlo was a conceptual behavioural artist, his uncle Alberto an illustrator who became famous for the creation of the character Lillibeth, and his grandfather Giovanni Italo, a painter and author of some of the most important Liebig and Lavazza figurine series.
In 1995, he began his adventure as a writer under the name Ravo, an activity that continued until the early 2000s, when he enrolled at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he devoted himself to oil and acrylic painting on canvas. In those years, he founded The Bag Art Factory together with Filippo Salerni in a former truck stop in Bovisa.
In 2016, invited by WG art’s Urban Canvas festival, he reproduced Caravaggio’s The Capture of Christ on an overpass pylon in front of the Belforte shopping centre in Varese. Thus began his most famous project: the Recovery of Classicism in the Contemporary. Since then, he has been spraying works by the great masters of classical painting on the walls of cities all over Europe and as far away as Brazil.
